Eleven people charged with the murder of a 31-year-old man in The Meadows are due to have a trial towards the end of this year.
Dates were discussed at a hearing at Nottingham Crown Court.
Defendants appeared via video links from custody but two were unable to attend. One accused was in the dock for the hearing on Friday, January 7.
The cases of the accused were sent to the crown court after magistrates’ court hearings.
It follows the death of Michael Anton O’Connor who was found with knife wounds in Wilford Crescent West, in The Meadows, just before 10.30pm on Wednesday, November 10.
Mr O’Connor, from Alexandra Park, later died at the Queen’s Medical Centre.
Members of his family attended the hearing and watched a television link where barristers and defendants appeared.
Prosecutor Adrian Langdale QC said a summary had been put forward about what the case is about. He spoke of a number of directions, a provisional trial date and stage timings.
The case will return to court on April 29 for a plea and trial preparation hearing – where the charge is put to the defendants and custody time limits will be dealt with.
The pending trial currently has a time estimate of 12 to 14 weeks.
All courts are booked up with cases to July and beyond. If a High Court judge were to conduct the trial, the earliest date it could be heard is in October. If the case is released to a circuit judge, the earliest date for trial would be September.
Judge Gregory Dickinson QC has referred the decision to a High Court judge.
Those charged with murder are: Benjamin Taylor, 37, of Monton Road, Eccles, Manchester, Leonard Ward, 41, of Marwood Road, Carlton; Joseph Boscombe, 39, of Rostherne Avenue, Manchester; Joshua Agboola, 28, of Leven Grove, Darwen, Blackburn, and Carla McGuire, 51, of Wilford Crescent West, The Meadows.
Also charged are Michael Mingoes, 19, of Powell Street, Manchester; Jerome Sheard, 29, of Wilford Crescent West, The Meadows; Rebecca Bell, 36, of Loughrigg Close, The Meadows; Paula Usherwood, 37, of Central Avenue, Beeston; Michael McGuire, 34, of Wilford Crescent West, The Meadows; and Curtis Sheard, 23, of Wilford Crescent West, The Meadows.
They have all been remanded in custody.
A twelfth person, Kerry-Anne Shepherd, 34, of Plantagenet Street, St Ann’s – who is charged with assisting an offender – attended the hearing via video link.
Detective Chief Inspector Rob Routledge, who is leading the investigation, had said: “My team has been working tirelessly on this complex case and the number of people charged in connection with Michael’s murder reflects the seriousness with which this incident has been treated.
“Specialist officers are continuing to support Michael’s family at this difficult time and officers will maintain their visible presence in The Meadows as part of their continuing efforts to reassure the local community.”
