University of Nottingham becomes first UK university to offer accredited ‘quieter’ student accommodation

Lincoln Hall officially accredited as ‘Quieter Halls’, to support students looking for more peaceful halls of residence

The University of Nottingham has announced that one of its leading student halls is now officially accredited as the UK’s first ever university ‘Quieter Halls’, in a move to meet national demand for more peaceful student accommodation.

Lincoln Hall, located on University Park, was this month awarded the UK’s first official accreditation for ‘quieter’ student halls of residence- an accreditation which has been developed by student accommodation search engine, in partnership with leading GP and student wellness expert, Dr Dominique Thompson. Criteria must be met which includes provisions around space, sound and general resident guidelines, as well as noise policies, support of specific requests for quiet rooms and living areas, and a quiet surrounding area of the accommodation building.

Lincoln Hall at the University of Nottingham will be the first university property in the UK to be officially accredited to adhere to the requirements, following the private student accommodation Student Castle in Edinburgh.

The announcement comes after universities and student cities have seen a surge in demand for quieter halls of residence- from students including athletes who focus on their sleep, those with a focus on wellbeing, or those who simply prefer not to live amongst the hustle and bustle of the student party environment.

Vikki Welch, Head of Accommodation at the University of Nottingham comments:

“We are lucky to have a very diverse student community with a wide range of needs and aspirations for their experience of university life, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming them back on to campus when it is safe for us to do so.

“We are delighted to have received this accreditation for Lincoln Hall at the heart of our University Park campus, which also features alcohol-free study and social areas, and enables us to cater for those students who prefer a quieter lifestyle while studying with us.”
