Shocking images have shown the aftermath of two lorries after a collision and subsequent fire on the M1.
Fire crews from Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire were called to junction 24 of the southbound carriageway just after 3pm on Monday, June 22.
Police and highways officers were also on scene following the crash, which closed off the entire carriageway between the entrance and exit slip roads at the junction.
Images showed traffic tailed back to junction 26 of the M1, with Highways England advising drivers that the crash and fire were causing delays of around an hour on the motorway.
And shocking images released by Castle Donington Fire Station on Twitter show the aftermath of the incident, with one lorry’s windscreen and bumper shattered and another lorry completely destroyed by the blaze.
“Car fire and road traffic collision on the M1 Motorway Jct 24. Please make sure you take care now the roads are getting busier.
“Don’t get distracted with radios or phones and always wear a seat belt.”
A spokesperson for Highways England added: “Delays on the M1 southbound between J26 and J24 have now reached an hour.
“Please allow plenty of extra time for your journey and if possible consider delaying your journey or using an alternative route.”
