Part of the M1 heading south has been closed due to a ‘serious collision’ for several hours.
The incident was reported around 6.30pm on Thursday evening (June 10) by Highways England.
The closure was initially just two lanes near to Junction 23A for Donington Park services and Junction 23 for Loughborough.
This became a full road closure in the same area around 7.15pm.
Motorway cameras show it is affecting traffic near East Midlands Airport.
Officers reported there were a car and a motorbike involved in the collisison.
A number of emergency services are at the scene.
A police spokeswoman told Leicestershire Live: “A two-vehicle road traffic collision was called into us at 6.20pm, involving a motorbike and a car,” she said.
“The motorcyclist is still being assessed by paramedics at the scene. The car driver is not injured. The southbound carriageway is currently closed between junctions 23 and 23a.”
Highways England initially tweeted: “The M1 southbound Junction 23A Donington Park Services (A42) to Junction 23 (A512 Loughborough Shepshed).
“Two lanes have been closed due to a serious collision Leicester Road Policing Unit and East Midlands Ambulance Service are currently at scene.
“Traffic Officers and Leicester Fire and Rescue are en route.”
The road was still closed as of 10pm.
