Slow Cooked Stories

8 July @ 1:00 pm - 9:45 pm

£18

“I did a cookery course in 2009. I set fire to two things: the dish cloth and the glazed carrots!”

Strange Futures Theatre invites you to an intimate and immersive  dinner party, featuring stories and fragments of conversations gathered from the local community. Stories about food, and stories about life.

These are stories offered by groups, individuals, friends and families, all transcribed and shared with an audience around a dinner table.  While telling these stories, food from recipes provided by the people involved is cooked by a professional chef.

In the performance a temporary community is built around the table and audiences are welcomed not only to share the food, but to share their own stories with each other as well. Recent audience members described Slow Cooked Stories as “a wonderful weaving together of memories, ostensibly about food, but really about the people who shared tasters of their lives.” and “truly inspirational, inclusive, and creative.”

One of the central pillars of the concept is that “we should be telling stories, and sharing stories. Stories are told around the table otherwise we have no history.” explains Director and performer Jane George. Strange Futures regulars Matthew Simmonds and William Moore are also joined by associate-artists, Alex Lake, Eliza Ann, and Mollie Guilfoyle.
