Bill Balaskas is an artist, theorist and educator, whose research is located at the intersection of politics, new media and contemporary visual culture. He is an Associate Professor and Director of Research, Business and Innovation at the School of Art and Architecture of Kingston University, London. His works have been widely exhibited internationally, in galleries, museums, festivals and public spaces. He has received awards and grants from the European Investment Bank Institute; Comité International d’Histoire de l’Art; Open Society Institute; European Cultural Foundation; National Sculpture Factory; and the Association for Art History, amongst others. Furthermore, he has been an editor for the Leonardo Electronic Almanac (MIT Press), while his writings have also appeared in edited books and in publications such as the Journal of Visual Culture, Third Text and Revista Arta. Originally trained as an economist, he holds a PhD in Critical Writing and an MA in Communication Art and Design from the Royal College of Art.
Carolina Rito is Professor of Creative Practice Research in the Research Centre for Arts, Memory and Communities at Coventry University; Executive Board Member of the Midlands Higher Education Culture Forum (UK); and Research Fellow in the Institute for Contemporary History at Nova University of Lisbon (Portugal). She is a researcher and curator whose work is situated at the intersection between knowledge production, the curatorial and contested historical narratives. Carolina is the executive editor of The Contemporary Journal, publishes in international journals (e.g. Kings Review, Mousse, and Wrong Wrong Magazine), and supervises doctoral studies in Arts and Humanities and Art and Design. She holds a PhD in Curatorial/Knowledge in the Visual Cultures Department at Goldsmiths, University of London where she taught (2014-2016). She lectures internationally in Europe, South America and the Middle East on her research and curatorial practice.
