Award Winning Festival Promoter Saves Summer with Launch of Outdoor Live Music Sessions

Arboretum Sunsets Opening Weekend: Friday 25th June/Saturday 26th June/Sunday 27th June

With the delay to the easing of restrictions putting the future of many of this year’s festivals in doubt, award-winning festival promoter DHP Family is delighted to save summer once again with the return of its innovative series of live music at an ‘outdoor pop-up venue’ in Nottingham city centre.

Arboretum Sunsets takes places in the historic Arboretum Park around the iconic bandstand building on its successful launch last summer.  More than 45 artists are already booked in to play over the series kicking off with a free opening party featuring upbeat music and DJs this Friday from 5pm, and more than eight hours of live music on Saturday from 1pm, headlined by Nottingham’s own Ferocious Dog, and another full day on Sunday from 1pm, capped off by New Model Army’s Justin Sullivan.

It comes as the 2020 Arboretum bandstand sessions were revealed to be in the running for a national Music Week Live Music Innovation Of The Year Event/Series which the industry title launched this year to reflect and celebrate the creative breakthroughs made in live events.

Ben Ryles, event booker, DHP Family said: “We launched the summer sessions as a way to celebrate and showcase all the amazing musical talent the East Midlands has to offer and to give people the opportunity to see some great live music in a safe and beautiful setting. We’re honoured our efforts have been recognised with this nomination and look forward to our second sessions launching this weekend!”

As well as the bandstand stage, the event space will feature two container bars and rotating street-food vendors. The spacious outdoor location means that all events can safely go ahead as planned, with covid safety measures in place. The site has previously hosted successful events under similar restrictions, with a fantastic turn out for Frank Turner’s two sold-out, socially distanced shows in September last year.

Turning the park into a socially-distanced event space started as an idea from DHP Family’s MD George Akins, who had seen the potential of the historic bandstand as a stage for local artists.

At the culmination of last year’s inaugural series in the new pop-up venue, George Akinssaid: “A great deal of effort went in to turning the Arboretum’s bandstand into a safe and fun environment. Creating the pop-up event space enabled us to support local musicians, connect with the local community and provide some much-needed positivity in a time where the live music industry is struggling. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved.”

Arboretum Sunsets event booker Ben Ryles states: “Now more than ever, giving people the chance to see some live music and experience some fantastic events is really important. We’re thrilled that we can go ahead with our entire summer event schedule as planned.”
