4 arrested after ‘car sped at 100mph and crashed into roundabout’

Police chased down an alleged stolen car and made four arrests after it reached speeds in excess of 100mph and failed to stop for an unmarked police car.

Patrol officers spotted a suspected vehicle at around 10pm on Friday June 11.

Checks revealed it may have been allegedly stolen in the Coventry area earlier in the evening, Nottinghamshire Police have said.

After speeding through the Newark area of Nottinghamshire, officers managed to arrest two men aged 25 and 19, and two women, both aged 18, when the car crashed into a roundabout on the A46.

Following searches of the vehicle, and later drug swipes and breathalyser tests, police arrested the suspected driver on suspicion of driving over the prescribed level of alcohol; dangerous driving; theft of motor vehicle; no insurance; no licence and possession of class A drugs.

The second man, who it is believed had also been driving the car earlier in the evening, was also arrested for the same offences.

The two women were arrested on suspicion of allowing to be carried in a stolen car.

PC Adam Woodward from Nottinghamshire Police said: “The special training we receive means we can ensure the public stay safe on the roads of Nottinghamshire.”
